“I recently read The Boy On The Wooden Box, a story about one of the children saved by Oskar Schindler's interventions in Nazi Germany.
It told all about his story and the story of his family - the ways they survived, how the war impacted them during and afterward, and the amazing ways Schindler advocated for the cause of the Jews. The whole time, I thought about how brave these people were. I thought about what a huge impact Schindler had had on this family in particular, but also on the rest of the 1700 or so people who were saved by his actions. That being said, I've read a lot about this time in history. I know that upwards of 11 million people died in the Holocaust, about 6 million of them being Jews. Numbers-wise, I'll be honest: I felt sad thinking about what a huge impact he had, and how it was so tiny in comparison to the destruction caused by others. It got me thinking, though: Does that mean he shouldn't have bothered? Of course not. Even if he "only" saved 1700 people, that's still 1700 people that got to live beyond the war, that were able to raise their families, to testify about the war, to go on to do better things with their lives.” (used by permission from from LoveAndBluesBlog.com) When I read this story in a weekly email sent by Leah Everly at loveandbluesblog.com, I thought “What a perfect way to encourage YOU as an officer with the challenges you are facing today”. Saying, "What you do matters" can seem so trite, but to the person who is having a bad day, or possibly their worst day...you matter in their life. Proactively keeping us safe, being a touch point to the victim of a horrible crime, helping people take the next step, serving with integrity...being there for us even when you are labeled as the exact opposite of who you are...you keep serving. Please be encouraged today knowing that the individuals you touch on a daily basis, over the course of your career, to THOSE people, what you do is making a difference! Thank you for not giving up. Your service is appreciated, Pastor Rob
